Allyson Newman is an Emmy-nominated queer composer and songwriter who fuses modern synth textures with intimate chamber ensembles and pop sensibilities to create emotionally powerful music. Think Howard Shore meets Kaskade/Deadmau5—Allyson loves to inject the euphoric builds and insistent motifs of progressive electronica into classical and orchestral composition, creating authentic scores with that spine-tingling frisson that are as visceral as they are cinematic.

Her work can be heard on Showtime's The L Word: Generation Q, Netflix's Partner Track, and Hulu's First Day. She's been nominated for two Society of Composers and Lyricists awards, along with two Hollywood Music in Media Awards and an International Sound and Film Music Festival Award nomination. Allyson was selected as one of 10 participants for the Spot the Composer program at the Marché du Film in Cannes.

Her past work includes the multi-award-winning documentary feature Limited Partnership, which premiered on PBS Independent Lens. She then went on to score the Emmy-nominated series Her Story and participated in the BMI Conducting Workshop. Following this, Allyson scored Kusama-Infinity, which premiered at Sundance and was released theatrically worldwide. Allyson collaborated with Oscar-winning directors Jeffrey Friedman and Rob Epstein to score State of Pride, which opened the SXSW Film Festival. She also scored Making Waves: The Art of Cinematic Sound, which premiered at Cannes. Most recently, Allyson scored the Hulu film Diane Von Furstenberg: Women in Charge, which opened the Tribeca Film Festival, and Arrest the Midwife, which premiered at SXSW.

As co-president of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, Allyson is proud of the work she's done to champion diverse voices in the industry.
